Cash in hand means you get physical money the moment we take the device, and that is exactly what we do. What it does not mean here is off the books: every purchase is receipted, your ID is recorded, and the serial is checked before a note changes hands. If you want the cash without the paperwork, we are the wrong firm — and honestly, so is anyone who agrees to it.
Plenty of places will take a phone off you for cash and ask nothing. That trade exists because stolen handsets need somewhere to go, and it is why honest sellers get offered so little — the buyer is pricing in their own risk. We do it the other way round: everything is checked, so we can pay what the device is genuinely worth.

Paying cash is perfectly legal. Buying second-hand goods without recording who you bought them from is what gets dealers in trouble, so we record it. You still walk away with cash.
Because the ID is what makes the purchase legitimate, not the payment method. It protects you too — it proves you sold it, on a date, for a price.
Larger lots and business purchases go by bank transfer for both our sakes. For an ordinary device sale, cash is no problem.
Selling your own used possessions is not normally taxable income. If you are selling as a business or clearing trade stock, that is your accountant’s call, not ours.
